The Winning Starts in your mind first!

1/27/2010
The Winning starts in your mind first!

I love everything that there is about competing, and it really does not matter what the event or sport. I love the process, preparation and everything that goes into getting quality results. In a prior post I defined greatness as the ability to produce quality results consistently. With that being what I believe, I also believe that winning starts in my mind first because I actually love doing the work that it takes to win. However if I win or If I come up short (I hope you all notice what word I did not use) I can always point back to my preparation. I do not believe that there are short cuts to success. One of my passions is playing golf, and over the past 2 years my game has actually gotten better, only because I took the time to THINK about what it would take to get better, while my friends might be out on the town, I am practicing and in constant thought about getting better at this wonderful game, and this past summer I posted my best scores.

Am I satisfied now? I would say that I am even more motivated to get better because my goals for golf are much higher than the best scores I posted. My point here is that I started thinking about the success that I wanted to achieve first. If my thoughts were about the fact that the game of Golf is difficult and I will never get better, then I would have never achieved my objectives. Sure there were some bad days and really bad scores but I believed that better scores were inside of me, and I that I could get better.

The winning starts in your mind first, it is another way of saying that whatever the mind can conceive and believe it will achieve. If your desire is to be your best, if starts in your mind first!

Be your best!

Intelligent Determination!

1/18/2011

Intelligent Determination!

Determination is defined as the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose and Intelligence is defined as capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths. Think about a point in time when you were so determined to meet a goal that it did not matter what barriers existed, you were going to meet your goal. I call it intelligent determination because at times we have to also be smart enough to review the progress that we are making, and make intelligent adjustments to our plan of action to ensure successful results.

We should not be so set in our plan of action that it does not allow for flexibility. There are times that the road to success can take us down some side streets every now and again, and we must be intelligent enough to navigate back to the correct path by making adjustments. There are many great stories of intelligent determination in action, as we celebrated the Martin Luther King holiday yesterday, we understood that Mr. King had a dream of equal rights and motivated a nation based on the content of his character and his determination to succeed in a non-violent manner. Read a biography about Thomas Edison, who is known as one of the greatest inventors of our time, Mr. Edison started from humble beginnings to become a major stockholder in the The General Electric Company. Although both of these men had different callings, and followed different paths, it was through their determination that they succeeded.

A few some biblical references come to mind which support how intelligent determination allows us to BE OUR BEST because It is the ability to set ourselves toward Godly pursuits, and not allow ourselves to be distracted or discouraged. In Galations Chapter 6:9 it says And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up, and in 2nd Peter 1:10 it states: Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.
Intelligent Determination will help us all to reach new heights to be the best that we can be and to enjoy the life that GOD has intended for us! After all he came that we should have life and life more abundantly.

Be your Best!

Greatness Defined!

1/7/2011

“Greatness Defined”

I define Greatness as the “ability to produce quality results consistently.” If you would take a few moments to think about all the people who you think that are great at what they do, you will probably find that they produce better and consistently good results more often. Think about the great athletes, entertainers, business leaders, pastors, teachers, sales people etc. Their greatness is in their ability to be very good over a long period of time, and over that period of time they have moments of greatness. There are plenty of one hit wonders that we have heard of in our lifetime, but it is the people who have a burning desire to succeed everyday that we tend to call great, these are the people who are constantly striving to make improvements in their character, and that tend to be intensely goal oriented.

What is it separates the good from the very good and the very good from the great? It lies in their attitude that they want to be great again and again and again. Why does Kobe Bryant have the title as the best winner in the game right now? It is probably because he is driven by something greater! Why is Tiger Woods the youngest ever to win 14 major titles and over 70 Golf Tournaments or why Michael Phelps dominated 2008 Summer Olympics? It has to be because of that burning desire to be great again, and again. We all have the ability to be great, if we make it a habit to be very good and to Be Our Best on a consistent basis. Each day we can resolve to be better than yesterday, each week, month and year we can be better than the next week, month or year. Your goals are not my goals and vice versa, but we all must develop a burning desire for something that will drive us to Be Our Best! Otherwise, we will be like a ship lost at sea.

GOD’s give each of us a special talent that belongs to us individually, and it is our job to develop our skills to get everything we can from our gifts. Matthew 5-16 says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Are you determined to produce quality results on a consistent basis, if so, make a decision to be great today!

Be Your Best!

Who Touched Me!

1-2-2010

Who Touched Me!

We all know the story about the woman with the issue of blood whose faith was so strong that after she barely touched Jesus it made her it cured her ailment (Luke 8: 43-47). As we begin 2011, the point of this message is to be DETERMINED to meet all of your goals. It does not matter what your goals are, but if you pursue each of them with a determined faith just like the woman in LUKE Chapter 8, you will receive the same results. I know that each of you can remember a time when you set out to accomplish a task and nothing would stop you. Think about for a moment if you will become passionate about a goal or goals, nothing can stop it from becoming a reality. Napoleon Hill the late author of Think and Grow Rich, says that a burning desire is the starting point for all achievement!

With Concentrated focus and determination one will not fail. The woman’s faith was so strong that Jesus felt power being pulled away from him. That is the same determination that we must have with us every day. Each of us must set goals, but each day we must be determined little by little to meet those goals.

Here is the deal, now is the time set those goals in faith and meet every last one of them by disciplined focus effort on a daily basis. Your faith must be so strong that those that you come in contact with will understand your determination just by looking at you! What are you willing to sacrifice to be your best? What are you willing to give up in order meet all of your goals in 2011? Once you answer those questions and commit your goals to writing, you will be well on your way!

Be Your Best!
